We all know that quality time is important. Quality time with our own children, spouses, family, and friends is something that we all enjoy. For some, creating quality time with our close ones can be challenging between busy schedules, distractions, and overall stresses of life. However, when we do make time to devote ourselves to others through simply spending time together, the impact can be well worth it!
What is Quality Time?
The best definition for quality time that we came across is from the Macmillan Dictionary. It says that quality time is “time that you spend with someone, usually your partner or child, doing enjoyable things together so that your relationship remains strong.” This definition keeps it simple – do things together that you both enjoy doing. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant or out of the ordinary. When you’re giving your Little your full attention and doing an activity together that you both enjoy, then you’re both bound to become better, happier versions of yourselves!
If you are just beginning your relationship as a new match, don’t stress if you haven’t figured out how you both enjoy your time together. That may take some time. We suggest that you try different things together and figure out what you most enjoy when spending time together. Also, ask your Little if they have any ideas. You might be surprised by their answer!
Benefits of Quality Time
As a Big, you already know the impact you can make on a child. Especially a child who may be lacking the opportunity to experience quality time with others due to an array of potential reasons. We found an article from the Highland Springs Clinic, linked here, that discusses the benefits for a child when they spend quality time with their family. The same could be said for quality time with their Big. Some of the benefits the article discusses are listed below:
- Improves mental health
- Helps children perform well academically
- Lowers risk of behavioral problems
- Boosts self confidence
- Reduces stress
